I started a little later than usual today because someone took it upon his/herself to steal my license plates and registration tags.
I couldn’t sleep so I got up early and did some work around the house. When I took out the garbage I discovered my car naked! The tags were ripped off and my poor car, Maude (that’s what I call her), was left undocumented. Nothing else was stolen. I guess because the alarm was on. So, someone tells me, are there alarms for OUTSIDE the car?
Officer Washington who by the way was not wearing a wedding ring took down my information in the wee morning hours. Hmmm… there is something about a man in uniform. Hey, before I forget, all you guys in uniform, remember there is a standing special every Friday.
Anyhow, I reported the theft and braced myself for the dreaded trip to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Here’s a tip. Call before going to your local DMV to make sure you have everything you need: photo identification, title tag numbers, etc. When you get to the DMV be prepared to spend some time there. I people-watched. Some of the guys were cute, however, the women were far more interested in their summer sandals, pinned up hair-dos and wrap-around skirts.
I knew that most of the representatives would be women. So, I dressed to please the women. I wore a yellow summer dress, gold charm bracelet, and a pair of clear mules with a hint of lilac behind each ear.
Oh, make a point of smiling and saying good morning or afternoon to everyone you meet. The men and women behind the counters have enough rude people to deal with on a daily basis. And a “thank you” and “have a nice day” is always good. It’s not sucking up, it’s just being kind to your neighbor.
I was in and out of there in 30 minutes.
Oh, yeah, and looking damn fine doesn’t hurt either.
