If you did not know before, Craigslist has an Erotic Services section where women sell their services for “roses” which is code for cold hard cash. The Erotic Services section will be disbanded within seven (7) days and rebranded as some sort of an adult section.
At first, I did not know much about Craigslist but years ago a horny friend of mine would call me periodically and goof on the male entertainers. There was this one guy who had a cock so big my incredibly straight buddy seriously would have switched teams if only for one night. But I digress.
Soon I began advertising Cheap Phone Sex on Craigslist. At first, it was pretty sweet. I got a slew of new phone sex callers and made $200-300 a day off a single Craigslist ad. Nice, huh? Oh, the drama! In a nutshell apparently, there is an ongoing war between phone sex owners and ‘other’ entertainers. How it started and for how long it has been going on I have no idea. All I know is that whenever I placed a wonderfully written phone sex advertisement within the Washington, DC section of Erotic Services my ad would be flagged. Flagged is Craigslist speak for “the community” believes that there is something wrong with the ad which could range from spam to illegal stuff to whatever. Whatever is right.
What guy living within the Washington, DC metropolitan area would not want to chat live with a woman in the same city? And at my phone sex prices? I seriously doubt that potential phone sex clients were “flagging” me. They were not! The flagging stuff was systemically happening to just about every phone sex owner. The phone sex owners claimed it was the “in-person” women. And if you think about it, it makes sense. A guy could spend on average $19.99 on a phone sex call and get the same result in lieu of spending significantly more on another type of service. So after two years (I am a very patient person) I went on the Craigslist forum, provided a copy of my phone sex ad and asked why (oh why) was my ad being flagged within minutes of being posted. Seriously, my would-be phone sex clients never saw my advertisements. The response I got will surprise you.
Phone sex is not locally based and is therefore not appropriate to advertise on Craigslist. My legal phone sex business that has been in service for 10 plus years and is locally based within the Washington, DC metropolitan area can not be advertised within the Washington, DC section of Erotic Services.
So, I took my marbles and went away.
Then, several months later (as I said I am very patient) Craigslist instituted this new program for Erotic Services. You had to associate a telephone number to your account. OK, done. Result? Same BS flagging drama. Then a couple of months later Erotic Services’ advertisers had to ‘pay to play’. No problem. The flagging thing was solved BUT the other “companies” advertising within the Erotic Services section was questionable at best. As an advertiser one had to wonder the caliber of people purchasing services within Craigslist’s Erotic Services section. So, I opted to stop advertising on Craigslist and then the thing happened…you know.
Now, I have been in the adult entertainment industry for a long time and very little shocks me. However, seeing the number of young women selling their bodies online was a little disconcerting. Read some of the ads. I commented to a friend that I had no idea there were so many whores in DC which I later learned pales in comparison to the volume and activity in places like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City and Boston. I suppose in this society many women like Miss California of the Miss USA pageant have nude and semi-nude photographs floating around in the ether, but I have to ask Craigslist, “What were you thinking?”
I have never been to an adult webmaster aka “pornography” convention where anything illegal was being advertised or sold. You would be surprised but in general adult entertainment owners are well versed in the law as it pertains to their industry. I will talk about this later but the one thing that ticks me off is when a mainstream company attempts to straddle the fence and pick the pockets of this side of the line. It didn’t work for Keen and it won’t work for Craigslist. Why? Neither of them ever took the time to learn the business, the rules and most importantly the law.
So, Craigslist is going to start an Adult section where the ads are going to be reviewed by members of their staff. Really? I suggest Craigslist have a conversation with the Adult section of Google Ads, Yahoo Search Marketing and the larger adult entertainment directories because while it sounds simple, it is anything but simple. Oh and one last unsolicited suggestion: include individual phone sex owners. Look I am not an affiliate hawking phone sex numbers. Those services are out there. Also out there are hundreds of single girl phone sex owner/operators and small and mid-size businesses that do not use affiliates to advertise their numbers and guess what …we are legal entities.
Cheap Phone Sex is a real business that is locally owned and operated right here in our nation’s capital. If the caliber of advertisers is better after the rebranding, then I fully expect to advertise Cheap Phone Sex within the Washington, DC section.
That’s the phone. Talk to you soon.
