I have a problem. It’s nothing serious but is there an entomologist in the house? Small filler segments of these insects have probably been broadcast on your local news stations. Although I am a fan of all living things these cicadas have got to go!
I heard about them in passing thinking that how bad is it? I mean they aren’t locusts, right? Well, last week as I was air-drying in front of a fan I turned my back – got to get the buttocks nice an dry too you know – and had this feeling that something was watching me. On the screen of my window was a cicada using its compound eyes to stare at me. I immediately opened the window and told it to shoo. A few minutes later it returned with a few of its pals and it has been nothing but frequent unannounced visits from these guys.
These things are so big that to a sleeping cat they look like birds or some interesting flying thing. So every once in a while you hear – SMACK. That would be the sound of my cat hunting cicadas and running into the window. It was funny the first time and cute a few times after that but now it’s just sad – really sad.
I want to do something before my cat cracks his head or loses his mind or both. So does anyone speak cicada? I am willing to negotiate. Sweet water, homemade bread sopped in sweet water, worm meat… name your price cicadas. Name your price, damn it!
That’s the telephone ringing. Is it you? Hope so!
